Abstract Details

2009, Master of Science, University of Akron, Biology.
Temporary pool communities are increasingly used as model systems to study community ecology. In spite of this interest, many temporary pool habitats remain ill-described. Herein is a detailed analysis of abiotic habitat characteristics of rock pools in Western Australia and northern Arizona. Additionally, a preliminary investigation of the macroinvertebrate and microbial communities was performed to more comprehensively describe this habitat. An attempt to describe the distribution of the freshwater clam shrimp, Limnadia badia was made using physiochemical parameter profiles of pools in Western Australia. Additionally, hatching rates of this species as well as Eulimnadia dahli were tested in a laboratory setting under different temperature regimes.
