Abstract Details

, Master of Arts, University of Akron, Theatre Arts.
This paper will explore the relationship between the English Renaissance theatre and the society in which it existed. Beginning with the reign of Elizabeth I, and progressing through the early Stuarts, this study will examine the circumstances surrounding the official closing of the theatre and its struggle to survive during the eighteen year Interregnum. The paper will conclude with an examination of the impact of the newly established patent companies on the re-emerging English theatre of the Restoration.
