Deaf Education Teacher Preparation: Similarities and Difficulties in Council on Education of the Deaf Certified Programs

Even though teaching standards exist for deaf education teacher preparation, the incongruity in the system demands action to improve the disparity in academic success for deaf and hard of hearing students. It can be argued that there is a connection between teacher preparation and student educational benefit. This explanatory mixed-method study examines Deaf Education Teacher Preparation (DETP) by identifying Council of Deaf Education (CED) programs' similarities and differences. The purpose is to examine the similarities and differences while comparing how CED programs apply the standards. Using data from program description documents, an online survey, and interviews provided answers and perceptions of DETP programming. Further, the data's findings illustrate disorganization in a field where a clear organization would benefit its consumers.
