This study examines four approaches to bilateral relations between nation-states: International System, Influence, National Interest and Perception. In addition, the study utilizes the perceptual approach in an attempt to explain U.S.-Jordan relations. It provides some examples of Middle East occurrences and crises and their influence on U.S.-Jordan perceptual relations. The perceptual approach encompasses the interaction in the domestic environment between the political elites and public perceptions and the impact on U.S.-Jordan relations. Furthermore, the study attempts to provide a descriptive and analytical political history of the Hashemite leadership during the Arab revolt in 1916 against the Ottoman Empire and its impact on the emergence of Jordan. In addition, the study attempts to explain the influence of political history on the perceptions of the public and political elites. Moreover, the study focuses on the impact of Middle East interaction, inter-Arab relations on U.S.-Jordan interests as they pertain to their perceptual relationship.
