Abstract
Complexity measures, spectral entropy, approximate entropy, and sample entropy are described and applied to an archive of electroencephalogram traces from a series of 32 male Sprague-Dawley rats to evaluate effects of maternal deprivation and alertness states on the recorded traces. Also, the method of surrogate data is described and applied to evaluate the traces for evidence of non-stochastic structure. A novel technique for assessing the significance of the surrogate data results for multiple epochs of the traces was developed and applied.
