Electroactive polymers (EAPs) can convert between electrical energy and mechanical energy. Most piezoelectric polymers are based on poled ferroelectric polymers. In the past, nylon-12 and nylon-11 have been reported show ferroelectric property. However, in nylon-11 the electromechanical activity is rather low due to its high Young’s modulus and small ferroelectric domains. Under the premise of requiring better mechanical and electrical performance, in this work we studied quenched and stretched nylon-12 and nylon-11 based poly(ether-b-amide) block copolymers (PEBAX). Due to the soft polyether blocks, the Young’s moduli of these PEBAX decreased. Nylon-12 based PEBAX exhibited narrow double hysteresis loop behavior at high temperature. Therefore, it is suitable as a good electrostriction material. Nylon-11 based PEBAX exhibited good polarizability at high temperatures. Combined with the decreased Young’s modulus, it is a potential piezoelectric material.
