The Pharmaceutical Industry And Marketing

Abstract Details

2021, Master of Sciences, Case Western Reserve University, Biology.
The pharmaceutical industry is considered to be one of the leading and major revenue generating industries in the United States. Their extensive research and development (R&D) outcomes have made it possible to develop treatments for many of the nation’s leading causes of morbidity and mortality. The spending of pharmaceuticals on R&D is anywhere between $1 billion to $10 billion (United States Dollar). With these huge spendings comes the responsibility and task of effective marketing as these pharmaceuticals need return on their investment as well as return on the failed R&D drugs expenditure. In recent years, major focus has been put on marketing efforts to promote drugs and medical devices due to an increase in demand, cut-throat competition and shareholder engagement. This paper focuses on the different marketing approaches taken on by pharmaceuticals at different stages of drug development. The paper also carves out a best marketing practices conclusion at the end, which is a mixture of old and new techniques in marketing along with emerging research tactics.
