PRELIMINARY STUDY OF MAIN SCALES AND SUB-SCALES OF THE CLEVELAND ADAPTIVE PERSONALITY INVENTORY

Houston, Hailee Echo

Abstract Details

2016, Master of Arts in Psychology, Cleveland State University, College of Sciences and Health Professions.
The present study was designed to assess the reliability and preliminary construct validity of the Cleveland Adaptive Personality Inventory (CAPI, Poreh 2012), and to propose subscales and validity indices. One-hundred-eighty students at a Midwestern university were administered the new inventory in addition to the DASS-21, a measure of depression, anxiety, and stress. The study documented satisfactory levels of internal consistency for the CAPI clinical scales, many of which are higher than the MMPI-II, MMPI-RF and the PAI. Additionally, the main scales entitled Anxiety and Depression scales correlated highly with the DASS-Anxiety and Depression subscales. Several validity indices were developed and exploratory analysis was conducted to reveal that a two-factor model reflected the best fit for the data. Overall, the study shows that the CAPI is robust and that the new measure might be valuable in as a screening measure for personality disorders. Additional research regarding the improvement of the new inventory is proposed.
