Implementation of a Mindfulness-Based Intervention to Reduce Test Related Stress and Anxiety in Third Grade Students

Abstract Details

2017, Specialist in Education (Ed.S.), University of Dayton, School Psychology.
The purpose of the present study was to examine the impact of a class-wide stress reduction intervention in a third grade classroom. Students’ academic performance can be adversely affected by stress and anxiety, including scores on high-stakes assessments. This study involved implementation of an intervention that uses mindfulness techniques to help students cope with testing related stress and anxiety. Results did not support the current intervention strategies or format for reducing testing related stress and anxiety in third grade students. Additional research is warranted to examine the effectiveness of mindfulness based interventions implemented in a school setting.
