Abstract
From the Maxwell theory, we have known that electromagnetic radiation carries not only energy but also momentum. The momentum of the light includes both the linear momentum and angular momentum, which has a spin angular momentum associated with polarization and an orbital part associated with spatial phase distribution. While the angular momentum is along the propagation direction mostly, it is still worth exploring the transverse orbital angular momentum. Light is twisted around the propagation axis in optical vortices, which is characterized by a helical wavefront and a zero intensity in the center. The optical vortices with transverse orbital angular momentum means the spiral phase is applied to the spatiotemporal plane instead of the transverse plane. The degree of circulation could be controlled by given a specific topological charge. We are going to present how to generate a spatiotemporal optical vortex with a controllable intrinsic transverse orbital angular momentum, as well as the phase measurement of the vortices beam. The experiment is also completed and the result matches the theory very well. On this basis, we will introduce the three-dimension measurement of the wave packet. The reconstruction intensity profile will present in this work. The propagarion of ST vortices in the 4f system is also studied. The unique property of optical vortices with transverse angular orbital momentum attracting us to explore more applications in the future, such as high speed optical communications, optical tweezer, and manipulate nanostructures on ultrafast time scales. The result of this work encourages us to move to the next step.
