Kindergarten Writing and the State Diagnostic Test, A Personal Journey in the Teaching of Writing

Nicholls, Kathy

Abstract Details

2005, Master of Arts in Education, Defiance College, Education.
The teacher/researcher found that a class of 16 kindergarteners were "confused and uncomfortable with the process and format" of state diagnostic tests used in writing assessment. The teacher/researcher used "purposeful developmentally appropriate writing instruction" and then measured whether this would make the students more comfortable with the diagnostic test format, and understand writing conventions such as left to right, top to bottom, and putting spaces between words. Students' attitudes about writing measurably improved after the instruction. [abstract not present in original document; provided by library]
