The Relation of an Advisory Program on Student Connectedness to the School, Teacher, and Advisory Teacher

Abstract Details

2023, Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), University of Findlay, Education.
The purpose of this study is to explore how middle school students perceive the relation of an advisory program on student connectedness to the school, teachers, and advisory teacher. The researcher used an adapted version of Karcher’s (2011) Hemingway Measure of Adolescent Connectedness survey to measure levels of student connectedness to three subscales: school, teachers, and the advisory teacher. Data analysis was completed using descriptive statistics, multiple linear regressions, and manifest coding. The 80 middle school student participants reported high levels of connectedness to each subscale. Findings showed that middle school advisory programs can connect students to their school, build an advisor-student relationship, and impact students’ academics.
