Investigations of Historic Textiles Through Jacquard Weaving Technology

McCourtie, Melissa M.

Abstract Details

2008, MA, Kent State University, College of the Arts / School of Art.
My thesis work is based on my interest in historic fabrics in which I am integrating large scale motifs with overall repetitive patterns. The 4 weavings reflect my interest in structure, non traditional materials, and a restrained color palette. The use of the non traditional materials such as newspaper in combination with the technical manipulation through digital jacquard weaving reflects my curiosity of the juxtaposition between historic and contemporary culture.
