Abstract Details

2010, MFA, Kent State University, College of Arts and Sciences / Department of English.
The proposed thesis entitled, There Will Be Casualties, is a collection of original poems exploring family, relationships and geography. All the poems are written from the point of view of a female speaker. The manuscript is divided into four parts. The first explores the speaker’s childhood; the second traverses the landscape of mental illness and what it means to love under those conditions; the third section explores the speaker’s deep desire for love and relationships, and the fourth section uses physical landscape and geography to reveal aspects of the self otherwise unknown, taking the reader on a journey through Asia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, the speaker discovers the possibility of a whole self without fractures or borders.
