Seriously is a visual exhibition of drawings, paintings, art books, and ceramics that collectively aim to provide answers to questions concerning local culture, self discovery and the preservation of existence. The individual works explore the transformation of our invisible articulations, like language, into the visible world. This metamorphosis is implemented through the concepts of social mirroring and the human camera. In addition to these key concepts the collaborative use of language and imagery seeks to confront the viewers personal beliefs and principles concerning aesthetics, ethics, and values.
My first intention in creating Seriously was to turn a mirror on society to capture my own engagement and interpretation of my surroundings, in consideration of external and often conflicting viewpoints. Upon collecting this unclaimed information, I represented it in various medias to disseminate and ask the viewer, “what information is a worthy snapshot that accurately preserves our collective social existence.” The obtained conclusion from these questions is primarily that, our various lives and all of their banal complexities are just as significant and beautiful as any artistic masterpiece or historical document could ever aspire to be.
