Notions of Time

Elliott, Benjamin

Abstract Details

, MFA, Kent State University, College of the Arts / School of Art.
My thesis Notions of Time is made up of six small sculptural objects that are moderately small in scale. This work is made primarily of flameworked borosilicate glass. Other materials such as steel, hay, sand, and burlap were also used in conjunction with the glass components. This work came about through some thoughts on the value of the proverb as a subject. There is a lot of information in these expressions of the past. My emphasis is on old sayings or proverbs about time or having some association with time. My interpretation of the phrase weighs heavily on symbolic relationships between materials and form. With these sculptures, I hope to evoke a playful thought, or stir up a memory for the viewer.
