Peace Through Growth: Political Response to Class Conflict in Interwar America, 1919-1923

Abstract Details

2018, MA, Kent State University, College of Arts and Sciences / Department of History.
This thesis analyzes the development and implementation of the Transportation Act of 1920, also known as the Esch-Cummins Act. This thesis argues that the Transportation Act, which served to restore the United States' railroad system to private ownership following the end of World War I, is an example of the American federal government shifting towards a new arrangement of collaboration with business interests in shaping industrial conditions.
