Abstract
Memories become our greatest lies as scars become our greatest truths. Through an intense exploration of self and the growth from my journeys, this body of work explores the ways in which identity has been constructed from memory and scars. This formation of the work become the scars, the evidence of transcendence from the body into the soul. By a deconstruction of the narrative, the scars begin to mean something more than the mundane. Creation and destruction develop balance, as rivers carve deep into mountains, memories carve out identities to create lasting beautiful scars. The preservation of past memories last only for a moment which is already gone. The scars become the physical evidence of endurance, strength, and survival that should not be hidden or ashamed of.
