TEACHING FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE: A CASE STUDY OF A SECONDARY ART EDUCATOR

Abstract Details

2020, MA, Kent State University, College of the Arts / School of Art.
Social justice art education is deeply rooted in a pedagogy of critical inquiry which is implemented through multiple approaches that would lead to students’ critical understanding of social issues such as race, class, identity, gender, and sexuality through art. The purpose of this study is to explore how a secondary art educator uses multiple instructional approaches and strategies to implement social justice in art education lessons to sensitize students about social issues and discover the possibilities of using art to respond to such issues.
