In attempt to research how the built interior environment can subconsciously increase physical activity many subjects were researched. An extensive review of literature on the topics: urban design, architecture, corporate wellness programs, food, and physical activity in correlation to obesity was researched. This point where all the above topics intersect, minimal research has been done. To better understand how human beings move through their workplace environment, an observation of two firms was conducted. From this observation, suggested design guidelines emerged on how to increase physical activity and decrease sedentary time within the built interior environment. More important barriers to increase physical activity and decrease sedentary time in the workplace environment are: economics, attitude, and perception.
