The synthesis and structural characterization of three metal amides was reported. One equivalent of N-N-bis-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-diazabutadiene (DIP-DAB) was reacted with two equivalents of BuLi, producing [Li2tBu2DIP-DAB)(THF) 2]. This complex was recrystallized in tetrahydrofuran (THF) to yield [Li2tBu2DIP-DAB)(THF2]. One equivalent of [Li2 (2Bu2DIP-DAB)] was reacted with CrCl3 producing complex 1, rac-[(THF){( tBu)2DIP-DAB}(Cl)Cr(µ-Cl)Li(THF)3]. Complex 2 and 3 were produced by reacting [Li2 (tBu2DIP-DAB)(THF)2] with CrCl3 (2) and MnBr2 (3) {2= rac-[(THF){(tBu) 2DIP-DAB}Cr(µ-Cl)Li(THF) 3] and 3= rac-[(THF){tBu)2DIP-DAB}Mn(µ-Br)Li(THF)3]}. A series of metal "ate" complexes were formed using this ligand.
