2017, BA, Kent State University, College of Arts and Sciences / Department of English.
A modern retelling of William Shakespeare's play Othello, Deadline centers around Ian Davis, an ambitious high school journalist who loses his dream position as editor of the paper to Omar Faraji. Even worse, Casey Langdon is chosen for the assistant editor, leaving Ian with no leadership on the staff and no leadership experience for his college applications. Determined to get the position he believes he is owed, Ian uses Omar's girlfriend, Delaney Moore, as a pawn in his plot to break up the friendship between Omar and Casey. However, Ian's schemes grow more cruel with each failure and lead to consequences he never expected. Deadline explores race, masculinity, and domestic violence in today's society and illustrates the relevance of Shakespeare's original play in the modern world.
