There is a gap in research about Native American humor. An integral part of Native life, it exists within Native American literature. This study is an attempt to narrow down the definition of Native American humor by including Gerald Vizenor’s rhetorical terms, which are often involved in Native American literature. Through the examination of three Native American novels, Almanac of the Dead, Bearheart, and Green Grass, Running Water, this study reveals how pervasive humor, survivance, manifest manners, and terminal creeds are in Native American literature.
