The Voices of the Disappeared: Politicide in Argentina and Chile

Abstract Details

2019, BS, Kent State University, College of Arts and Sciences / Department of Anthropology.
During the 1970s and 1980s, over 30,000 people were killed in Argentina and Chile, with thousands more being tortured over their political views. Yet these instances of mass killings are not considered genocides due to their political nature. Through analysis of abduction, torture, execution, and disposal methods, this thesis argues that politicide should be included under the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment for the Crime of Genocide's definition of genocide.
