This thesis analyzes the factors that go into choice of major for foreign-born individuals studying in the United States. There are many factors that might potentially affect a person's choice of major. Those factors differ among U.S.-born individuals, those who came to the United States for the first time to pursue a degree, and those who came before the start of their academic career. In this thesis, I specifically focus on choice between STEM and non-STEM majors and those who first came to the United States before the age of 16. I find that those who were born outside of the U.S. were more likely to choose a STEM degree compared to those born in the U.S. Additionally, my research concludes that those who came between the ages of 6 and 11 were more likely to choose a STEM field compared to those who came to the United States before the age of 6 and between the ages of 12 and 16.
