Alter-Expo: Expo 2020 and the Future of International Expositions

Abstract Details

2021, BS, Kent State University, College of Architecture and Environmental Design.
Alter-Expo is an attempt at redefining the existing framework of International Expositions. Through research on the issues and criticisms of Expositions, it is determined that the ongoing occurrence of these mega-events is reliant on their success. Multiple attempts have been made at redefining Expositions to incorporate sustainability and see their continuity into the future. Despite these attempts, Expositions continue to lack a unified purpose in the 21st century. Through studying 7 previous International Expositions, as well as additional precedents, this project seeks to offer an alternate approach to an Expo by using Expo 2020 Dubai as its base.
