Abstract
It is apparent that academic cheating has increased over the years and many researchers have conducted studies to identify potential influencing factors. Research has shown that both personality variables and situational variables play a role in academic cheating. This study investigated how conscientiousness and situational manipulations of belief in free will and determinism would account for variance in academic cheating, by a logistical regression model. It was hypothesized that individuals primed with determinism and free will beliefs would account for most of the variance, with conscientiousness accounting for a slightly less amount of variance, which would create a significant model demonstrating the factors that influence academic cheating behavior. However, results showed that the model of conscientiousness, free will, and determinism was not a significant predictor of academic cheating and none of the independent variables were significant predictors individually to explain cheating behavior.
