To fulfill my IES internship requirement I completed two internships. My first internship was with Crater Lake National Park. During the summer of 2002 I served as a General Biologist in the Natural Resources Preservation and Research Division updating the park’s environmental compliance procedures and assisting with the Centennial Celebration. The park’s environmental compliance procedures needed to reflect the new policy in Director’s Order #12: Conservation Planning, Environmental Impact Analysis and Decision-Making. In November 2002, I began my second internship with Westinghouse Savannah River Company through the Department of Energy, Oak Ridge Institute of Sciences and Education. I assisted with the State of Ohio Department of Energy Closure Sites and subsurface characterization projects. Activities included data analysis for Savannah River Site projects and fieldwork at the Ashtabula Closure Project sampling for contamination. February 2003, I attended the Fernald Environmental Management Project Technical Assistance Team meeting, which addressed subsurface characterization needs.
