The Alliance for Risk Assessment Dose-Response Framework: Practical Guidance for Risk Practitioners

Kroner, Oliver

Abstract Details

2011, Master of Environmental Science, Miami University, Environmental Sciences.
The field of chemical risk assessment is rapidly evolving. Recent years have seen an improved understanding of cellular biology, mode of action, exposure, kinetic and dynamic behavior, accompanied by major technological improvements in computational speed and power. The recent report from the National Academy of Sciences’ Science & Decisions: Advancing Risk Assessment (2009) has been impactful in shaping the discussion on the future of toxicology and chemical risk assessment in public health protection. Building on the recommendations of the NAS, a three part workshop series hosted by the Alliance for Risk Assessment (ARA) titled Beyond Science & Decisions: From Problem Formulation to Dose Response has brought the NAS suggestions closer to implementation by conducting case studies to illustrate real-world application. A key product of this series is the Dose-Response Framework, an interactive tool for selecting a dose-response technique based on the risk assessment’s problem formulation, data availability, and regulatory context.
