ANÁLISIS DEL PODER Y LA SEXUALIDAD EN LOS CUENTOS DE MARVEL MORENO

Sosa, Ricardo Antonio

Abstract Details

2012, Master of Arts, Miami University, Spanish.
Marvel Moreno delineates the social constructs of Barranquilla during the late twentieth century from the distance of her self-imposed exile. Moreno's collection of short stories illustrates the powerful social segmentation that exists in her hometown and the manner in which womanhood is considered a pawn which can be manipulated in order to secure a certain socioeconomic status. In her first short story of the collection, "Oriane, tía Oriane" recurrent specular images and labyrinthical figures set the stage for a narrative that must be read between the lines. This type of narrative unearths a world in which the family structure reflects the violence in society and calls into question society’s taboos.
