Four Eagles Lake Management Plan: A Practicum Report

Four Eagles Lake is part of the Miami Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, located in Camden, Ohio a highly agricultural region. Recently, use of the lake has been dramatically hindered by excessive algal growth and increased sedimentation. The council is in search of a long-term and sustainable alternative for management. Data were collected on nutrients, sediments, algae and the surrounding watershed to better understand the current status of the lake. The lake management plan includes a discussion of human influence on the lake, current lake status, goals for improving quality, alternatives for accomplishing goals, and an implementation plan to achieving the alternatives. The lake was found to be hypereutrophic with significant nutrient and sediment inputs from the watershed and the establishment of surface flow wetlands is recommended to help alleviate these symptoms. An estimated cost of implementing such a project is presented and continued monitoring is suggested.
