EXAMINATION OF THE CONVERSATION PARTICIPATION RATING SCALE

Bergmann, Amelia

Abstract Details

2014, Master of Arts, Miami University, Speech Pathology and Audiology.
This research study examined the validity of the Conversation Participation Rating Scale (CPRS), a new self-report measure for school-age children ages 8-16. Two case studies are presented to compare and contrast information provided by the CPRS, a social language test and parent and child report measures. Each participant completed the CPRS and a second self-report measure, the student version of the Social Skills Improvement System (SSIS). Parents completed the adult version of the SSIS and the Children's Communication Checklist-2 (CCC-2). The results revealed that both participants rated themselves more positively in social skills and problem behaviors than the parent ratings. The results provide unique insight into each child's social participation sphere.
