This thesis, written in French, aims at defining the various relations of historical truth within testimonies of the Second World War written throughout the past five decades. The testimonies are divided into two categories: Margarete Buber-Neumann’s Deportee a Ravensbruck and Jorge Semprun’s L’ecriture ou la vie as direct testimonies and Lydie Salvayre’s La Compagnie des Spectres as well as Laurent Binet’s HHhH as indirect testimonies. The analysis focuses on the question of the limits of historical truth in each work. Furthermore, this thesis emphasizes the role of writing and speaking in the process of testimony. By using Cathy Caruth’s theory on trauma, explained in Unclaimed Experience, we will analyze how the different traumatic events are never fully experienced unless the survivor revisits the traumatic event.
