Sports analytics can be applied to the sport of volleyball to gain a competitive edge against an opponent. One hundred three Division I volleyball matches from the 2017 Mid-American Conference were analyzed using the parameters of server location, speed of the serve, location of the passer, and passing angle, as it relates to the serve receive pass rating. Results showed that there is a significant difference in serve receive pass rating with the speed of the serve, location of the passer, and passing angle. However, there is no significant difference in serve receive pass rating based on server location. Sports analytics can be used to maximize training and recruit skills that correlate to a winning volleyball program.
