Measuring the Radiative Lifetimes of the Vibrational Levels in the 6 sSg State of Sodium Dimers Using Time-Resolved Spectroscopy

Abstract Details

2019, Master of Science, Miami University, Physics.
The radiative lifetime of the 6 sSg (7,31) state of Na2 has been measured using optical optical double resonance excitation via the intermediate state: A sSu (8,30). The molecules were excited by two home-built tunable dye lasers both pumped by a Nd: YAG pulse laser. To achieve the lifetime measurements a time-correlated single photon counting technique was used. With effective lifetimes measured at various background pressures, the Stern-Volmer relationship is used to extract the radiative lifetime.
