Abstract
The design of a new facility to support film cooling research is presented. The facility includes the design and implementation of a controller [implemented in LabVIEW 2018 version 18.0.1] in order to reach and maintain the desired testing conditions. This research uses simulated 3D models in COMSOL Multiphysics 5.0 in order to run preliminary tests of the facility, with the purpose of safely and quickly finding the set conditions for the film cooling tests. The LabVIEW code is used to manage all the data acquisition probes, open and closed-loop controllers, as well as all the data transfer. The facility has had initial test runs at low pressures with no leaks or other issues. While the model is able to simulate the correct trends, additional refinements are needed to more accurately predict the values. An open-loop schedule has been tested in the COMSOL model and compared to the facility. While the schedule represents the optimal process to reach the desired setpoints, the model needs to be improved before reaching a definitive schedule.
