Abstract Details

2014, M.A. (Master of Arts in Liberal Studies), Ohio Dominican University, Liberal Studies.
This paper examines ironies in America's national hymns, the histories of the lyrics and tunes, and the present-day use of patriotic songs. Organized chronologically, American anthems are presented from the Revolution to the present, with a summary of elements necessary for songs to successfully represent America's civil religion.
