No Fear Here: The Authentic Performance of Shakespeare

Busler, Marcia L.

Abstract Details

2018, M.A. (Master of Arts in English), Ohio Dominican University, English.
A space such as the rebuilt Globe or Blackfriars requires worthy productions, and some lovers of Shakespeare are calling for productions that attempt to hearken back to authentic practices, or productions that approximate the performance circumstances of the Elizabethan age or emulate one or more aspects of stage conventions of the era. The Globe mounts at least one Original Practices production a season, and because of the experimentation with authentic productions, “new” ways to look at and listen to Shakespeare are springing up. Closer consideration should be given to these aspects of Original Practices productions because they will allow for a greater understanding for those who study Shakespeare as well as a greater appreciation of the plays and the spaces in which they initially were performed.
