This thesis is a step towards evaluating the possibility of using existing technology in reducing air-pollution from coal gas fired power plants. Instead of bringing a totally new technology to meet the proposed EPA regulation, it is far more convenient in terms of money and resources to modify the existing technology. One such practical solution is Wet metal plate Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP). Application of Wet ESP seems promising when it comes to meeting PM 2.5 regulation and the need of a technology that can be used to remove multi-pollutants. My research is focused on finding the collection efficiency of wet metal plate ESP in capturing particulate matter namely fly ash and iron oxide. The goal of this research is to experimentally measure collection efficiency as a function of voltage and then use that data in an accepted model of precipitator behavior, to predict the voltage required for higher efficiency.
