The aim of the following research is the implementation of the bipolar transistor model in the circuit simulator RELAX, which is based on the Waveform Relaxation algorithm. Several forms of circuit simulators based on various simulation techniques, have evolved over the past few years. Some of the most widely used are the standard and waveform relaxation methods of simulation. In the following research the Gummel-Poon transistor model is implemented in RELAX2.3mod which is a waveform relaxation simulator using the overlapped partitioning algorithm.
The bipolar transistor model in the simulator SPICE served as a reference for this implementation. The overlapped partitioning algorithm is believed to enhance the convergence properties of the standard partitioning algorithm of waveform relaxation. The investigation of this pre-established fact is a secondary objective of this research. Several bipolar circuits were analysed and simulated using the direct and the partitioning methods of simulation and the results obtained formed the basis for a comparative study between the various simulation methods.
