Abstract Details

2007, Master of Science (MS), Ohio University, Mechanical Engineering (Engineering).
The electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) are the most commonly used industrial air cleaning devices. Nowadays, they are starting to be used in indoor air cleaning as well. The technology of electrostatic precipitation has been in use for nearly a hundred years, but is still being improved. Sieving electrostatic precipitator (SEP) is a new generation of ESPs. They have shown promising results in the collection of submicron particles. In this thesis, an improved version of SEP is studied and tested. As a result, enhanced charging sieving electrostatic precipitators (ECSEP) could be more efficient and less expensive. Fly ash collection efficiency of ECSEP has been tested with both AC and DC currents.
