This is a collection of poetry preceded by a critical introduction entitled, "'My Beautiful Mother': Memory, Image, Representation, and Poetry. A Critical Introduction." The introduction discusses the concepts of image andrepresentation as it intersects with memory. I compare and contrast my poems to the poems of Sharon Olds and the creative non-fiction of Peter Handke. The creative portion of the thesis deals with the subject of the various family members and my memories of them, but is not limited to this subject.
