The record of Late Ordovician brachiopod species of Laurentia records interbasinal invasion and subsequent evolution of brachiopod fauna both taxonomically and ecologically. These patterns are assessed through environmental niche modeling of brachiopod species of the C5 sequence of the Cincinnati Arch region and through a phylogenetic analysis of the Laurentian rhynchonellid genera, Hiscobeccus, Lepidocyclus, and Hypsiptycha. Paleobiogeographic patterns are similar for both native taxa and Richmondian invaders throughout the C5 sequence. Brachiopod species closely track their preferred sets of environmental variables through time and space in a symmetrical pattern. In a regional context, the majority of species demonstrate a coordinated response to shifting environmental conditions through time. Phylogenetic analysis confirms the monophyly of Lepidocyclus and Hypsiptycha, while the traditional definition of Hiscobeccus comprised a paraphyletic grade. Two new genera, Eohiscobeccus and Parahiscobeccus, are erected to house basal braches within the traditional definition of Hiscobeccus, returning the genus to a monophyletic clade.
