An Appalachian Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra

Gorby, Roderick B.

Abstract Details

2010, Master of Music (MM), Ohio University, Composition (Fine Arts).
An Appalachian Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra was composed for solo violin with an orchestra of single winds and brass, and strings. The piece pays homage, through a subtle use of stylistic instrumental figures, to the following influences: the soundtrack of Brother, Where Art Thou, the violinist Mark O’Conor’s compositions and style, and the beautiful landscape of Appalachia.
