Concerns of Teachers: Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-Enabled Instruction in Kerala, India

This study examined the concerns of high school teachers in Kerala, India about ICT-enabled instruction. The major conceptual framework of the study was based on the Concern Based Adoption Model (CBAM). Mixed method design was used to address the research question. Stage of Concern (SoC) instrument was used to identify teachers' concern. The results showed that teachers had high concern in Stage 1 (Informational) and Stage 5 (Collaboration). MANOVA analysis indicated that teachers' characteristics like involvement with ICT, type of school, medium (language) of instruction, gender and self-reported experience were not indicators of concerns reported. However, statistically significant relationships were found with age group, teaching experience and subject (science and non-science) when teachers reported seven stages of concern. The findings of this study have the potential to guide ICT-enabled instruction into the K-12 classrooms in Kerala, India and other developing countries where ICT-enabled instruction is in its infancy.
