Detailed measured sections from 14 locations bracketing the Brush Creek Limestones (Conemaugh Group) of Athens, Ohio and 10 additional reconnaissance locations were used to determine depositional patterns and the location of sequence boundaries. Conodont biostratigraphy confirmed the presence of the Lower Brush Creek Limestone. Nine lithofacies were identified and grouped into five facies associations spanning shallow shelf to floodplain. The data show that the Lower Brush Creek Limestone was deposited upon a surface with at least eight meters of paleotopography. Three 4th-order sequence boundaries and one 5th-order boundary were identified in the study interval. The similarity of the sections in Athens County to the equivalent sections in the Midcontinent basin indicate that eustasy was the primary factor controlling relative sea level change during deposition of the Brush Creek interval. Differences in the sequences between the two regions indicate a tectonic overprint can be documented in the study area.
