Design of Experimental Apparatus for Expedited Testing of Thrust Bearings under Varying Real World Conditions

Abstract Details

2017, Master of Science (MS), Ohio University, Mechanical Engineering (Engineering and Technology).
An experimental apparatus was designed for expedited testing of thrust bearings to better understand their behavior under varying real world conditions. This was done through a three step process during which a bench scale experimental apparatus was designed and fabricated to gain a better understanding of bearing experimental apparatuses. The bench scale experimental apparatus was than validated through the completion of a test matrix. A full scale experimental apparatus was designed in accordance with operation specifications outlined by project sponsor Miba Bearings US, LLC. The systematic process depicting CAD models, simulation results, and test data required to complete both the bench scale and full scale experimental apparatuses are described in detail in this document.
