Every Day is Like Sunday

Abstract Details

2019, Master of Arts (MA), Ohio University, English (Arts and Sciences).
My thesis essays take on braided and fragmented forms that juxtapose my experience and identity inside and outside of Mormonism and complicate my worldview that Mormon gospel truths once informed. My thesis includes, for example, essays on the psychological control and freedom I found through figure skating, during a time when I had to decide whether to fulfill the requirement for Mormon men to serve a two-year evangelical mission; my belated discovery of compromising truths about Joseph Smith, who I had long known and loved as the founding prophet of the Mormon church; and the way I began to construct my post Mormon identity through skateboarding in a defunct pool.
