The Effects of the Copy, Cover, and Compare Strategy on the Acquisition, Maintenance, and Generalization of Spelling Sight Words for Elementary Students with Disabilities

Abstract Details

2009, Master of Arts, Ohio State University, ED Physical Activities and Educational Services.
This study examined the effects of the copy, cover, and compare (CCC) self-correction strategy on the acquisition, maintenance, and generalization of spelling sight words for 6 elementary students diagnosed with disabilities. A multiple baseline single-subject design was used to determine the effectiveness of the CCC strategy to teach 9 or 18 unknown Dolch sight words. Results showed that CCC was effective in the acquisition, maintenance, and generalization of sight words for all participants. Additionally, students and teachers reported satisfaction with the CCC strategy, indicating that it is a socially valid approach to teaching new spelling words.
