Student Perceptions of Diversity

Abstract Details

2011, Master of Arts, Ohio State University, EDU Teaching and Learning.
The subject of diversity in education is critical in the Twenty-first Century. It can be especially important in school districts that have seen a rapid rise in population and the number of students from diverse backgrounds. The subject of this paper is a high school that has seen a 128% population growth in the past ten years, and has seen diversity grow at a similar rate. To see how the school has dealt with this relatively rapid diversification, students from the senior class were asked to give their impressions of diversity. These results tend to show that, while not perfect, the school seems to be doing an appropriate job in ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, feel comfortable in a variety of circumstances.
